Charlottesville-based Quad-C Management Announces Sale of Dental Care Alliance

Charlottesville, VA, July 6, 2015: Quad-C Management, a leading middle market private equity firm, today announced that the firm and its management partners have sold Dental Care Alliance (DCA), one of the largest multi-branded, dental-practice management companies in the United States, to New York-based private equity firm Harvest Partners, LP. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TypeZero Technologies Receives CIT GAP Funding to advance development of artificial pancreas technology

The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) has announced that its CIT GAP Funds has invested in TypeZero Technologies, LLC, an early-stage medical technology company with a proprietary intelligent control system that improves the safety, outcomes and quality of life for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. CIT GAP Funds led TypeZero’s seed round, which included several other investors.

Cavion Presents Clinical Trial Data at ASCO

Charlottesville-based Cavion LLC, a pharmaceutical company developing T-type calcium channel inhibitors for the treatment of solid tumors and neurologic diseases, presented preliminary results from an ongoing multi-site National Cancer Institute Adult Brain Tumor Consortium (ABTC) and Cavion-sponsored Phase 1b clinical trial at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) on June 1. Matthias Holdhoff, MD, PhD of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins discussed this dose escalation trial, completed enrollment in November 2014, evaluates the safety and pharmacokinetics of Cavion’s novel cancer drug mibefradil when sequentially administered with temozolomide in patients with recurrent high-grade glioma.

CIT and VDOE Announce 2015 Winners of Apps4VA JMU App Development Challenge

The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), in partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), announced today the winners of the 2015 Apps4VA James Madison University software application (app) development competition. Virginia Velocity: Virginia's Business Plan Competition - Deadline to Apply Extended to July 17, 2015

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Virginia Velocity, Virginia’s premier business plan competition, on June 12, 2015, and there are some excellent prizes for the winners. Competitors can win cash awards of up to $225,000 with Virginia Velocity! Startups in operation for at least 24 months in either the energy or biosciences industries are qualified to compete.

Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program (CSIIP)

The Commonwealth STEM industry Internship Program (CSIIP) is a no-fee online system that enables Virginia companies to access, select and hire spring, summer, and fall interns from a large pool of pre-qualified college and university STEM students throughout Virginia. Funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia, CSIIP is managed by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and is partners with ACEC, CCAM, IALR, NCI, SVHEC, the ten Virginia Technology Councils, Virginia Bio, Virginia SHRM, the Virginia Chamber, and the Virginia Manufacturing Association.  The CSIIP is a year-round program, spring, summer, and fall.  Student applications and company registrations are always welcomed.

HemoShear Expands Focus to Discovery of Therapeutics
