The Central Virginia Angel Academy will be a six to eight-week program beginning in Spring 2023. The program will be run twice per year, once in Spring and once in Fall.
While the program will be open to all, it will emphasize equity by deliberately recruiting two audiences:
female and non-white individuals who are accredited and may be familiar with angel investing but want to improve their success
female and non-white investors interested in becoming angel investors in the future who may or may not currently be accredited
This program seeks to:
surface emerging investors
curate an experience to introduce them to angel investing
engage them in the ecosystem in unique ways
provide participants with the tools to make successful angel investments
connect them to our existing angel groups
create a stronger community
Cohort education allows people to create connections and build a network that can bridge to future success and bring more investment opportunities. Similar local programs, such as a local founder program run by the Community Investment Collaborative for women and minority founders and the Business Essentials Training (BET) program run by the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center, have demonstrated the enduring impact of creating alumni networks that can lean on each other for support. This establishes an even stronger sense of community for individuals who may feel uncomfortable being the only person in the room who looks the way they do.
