2019 CBIC Awards Gala Accepting Nominations Through Jan 31

Charlottesville, VA, December 1, 2018– The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2019 CBIC Awards, CBIC’s signature event honoring Central Virginia's most innovative organizations, startups and individuals and highlighting technology, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence. 

Nominations for the 21st Annual CBIC Awards may now be submitted by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the nominee's name, contact information (email and phone number), and the award category/ies. Nominees will be contacted for further details later.

Local Entrepreneurs Celebrate a Good Year with Good Causes

(Charlottesville, VA) -- The cash and champagne were flowing Thursday night, May 18, 2017 as Central Virginia's leading innovators toasted the recipients of the 2017 CBIC Awards and CBIC gave away $7,500 in scholarships and grants supporting science and technology education and student entrepreneurship. The annual event's inspirational speaker was Charlottesville's own Brian Calhoun, co-founder of Rockbridge Guitars and inventor of the board game craze, Chikapig.

Brian Calhoun, the local creator of the national board game craze Chickapig, will be the featured Inspirational Innovator at the 19th Annual CBIC Awards at the Boar's Head Inn honoring Central Virginia's most innovative organizations, startups, and individuals. Calhoun is also the co-founder of Rockbridge Guitars headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia.

2017 CBIC Awards Gala Accepting Nominations Through Feb 28

Charlottesville, VA, January 31, 2017– The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 CBIC Awards, CBIC’s signature event honoring Central Virginia's most innovative organizations, startups and individuals and highlighting technology, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence. 

The 2017 CBIC Awards Gala, the largest and only one of its kind recognizing the region’s most successful startups and innovators, will be held at The Boar's Head on Thursday, May 18.

Bernard Hankins, Creative Thinker, Master of Metaphor and Spoken Word Poet will offer insights on questions through his unique approach of word deconstruction. Bernard is the winner of the 2015 Tedx Open Mic Competition, and the closing speaker for the 2015 Tedx conference.

UVA Innovation Showcased at Lifetime Learning Lecture

Some of the most promising technological innovations at the University of Virginia got a round of applause at Alumni Hall before the Virginia Cavaliers football team took the field Saturday.

Innovation at UVa was the subject of the latest “More Than the Score” lecture, organized by the university’s Lifetime Learning program. About 200 people attended, many wearing orange and blue in support of the Cavaliers.
