2016 marks the 18th year that the Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC) has celebrated entrepreneurship and innovation through its Annual CBIC Awards Gala. Last year’s gala resulted in a 50 percent growth in attendance over the prior sold-out year making it the largest CBIC Awards Gala in history with 360 attendees!

The Hour of Code is a movement that began in 2013 with the ambitious goal of getting 10 million students coding for an hour during Computer Science Education Week in December. To date over 145 million students have participated in the Hour of Code. Many schools throughout our community have joined in the Hour of Code, setting aside an hour in their school day to give all their students an opportunity to get hands-on with coding.

From student entrepreneurs, to startups, to some of the fastest growing tech companies in America, Charlottesville’s tech scene is thriving.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my more than 17 years of supporting the tech community in Charlottesville, it’s that intelligent, curious minded people not only enjoy getting together to socialize, collaborate, share ideas and form professional relationships, but that its necessary for their growth and sometimes even their survival. And what better way to do it than over a frothy, adult beverage!
