BackStory with the American History Guys—a nationally-distributed public radio program and podcast based at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities in Charlottesville, VA—seeks a Digital Editor & Strategist. This person creates and edits web content at, and coordinates the show’s ongoing efforts to engage audiences across various digital platforms, including iTunes, Soundcloud, and social media.

This position requires the ability to work creatively and independently, coordinating all facets of BackStory‘s online presence and managing contributing interns. In collaboration with senior management, the Digital Editor & Strategist develops and implements action plans for growing BackStory‘s online presence, tracks audience metrics, and keeps apprised of industry best practices. This person pitches and coordinates listener engagement campaigns, working to expand audiences for the BackStory podcast and website. S/he also serves as the primary digital point person for educators and other key constituencies, including partner organizations. Other duties include coordinating the upload of completed broadcast and podcast episodes. Successful candidates will have experience creating, managing, and/or editing web and multimedia content (especially spoken-word audio) in a journalistic setting. Excellent writing and organizational abilities are vital, as is an active interest in and comfort with social media platforms and web-publishing tools. Experience working with digital archives in scholarly settings is a plus, and research skills in the humanities are preferred. Starting salary: $42,000-$47,000.
