The Small Business Jobs Grant Fund, a program within the Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity, was created by Delegate Steve Landes in 2010 to give grants to qualified small businesses to help offset some of the costs of hiring new employees. This is a performance-based program designed to encourage small businesses to create jobs and spur economic development within the Commonwealth.


Company must be for profit and MUST fall under one of these business sectors: o Manufacturing o Distribution Centers o Corporate HQ's for Companies (with multiple facilities) o Research and Development o Information Technology Services to Business (B2B) o Inbound Call Centers (note: Non-profits, retail businesses, construction, and professional services DO NOT QUALIFY!)

Company must:

o  Create at least 5 net new VA Full-time jobs with 24 months from the date of the first hire.

o  Make a new capital investment of at least $100,000 associated with the start up or expansion.

o  Pay a minimum entry-level wage rate of at least 1.35 times the federal minimum wage (which at this time is $9.79 per hour). In areas that have unemployment of one and a half times or more than the state level, this wage minimum may be waived by the Department. Only full-time VA jobs are eligible for funding, and no funds shall be awarded for any positions created solely as the result of a merger or acquisition, or similar business combination unless such new full-time positions are relocated from outside Virginia. Funding shall not be awarded for positions laid-off in the 12 months prior to applying. Only full-time jobs filled by Virginia residents that qualify for benefits are eligible for funding.

PROGRAM BENEFITS: Funding for each net new VA Full-time job created is based on a customized budget determined by an assessment of your recruiting and training activities. Funding is reimbursable 90 days after the employee is hired.
